What is time?

A mystery, a figment - and all-powerful.

It conditions the exterior world, it is motion married to
and mingled with existence of bodies in space,
and with the motion of these.

Would there be time if there were no motion?

No motion if no time?

We foundly ask.

(Thomas Mann - The Magic Mountain)

Figurative Abstract

In the past decades the main ambition of the leading artistic trends was to portray our figurative world in an abstract manner.

But what would happen if this longstanding concept were to be reversed? What if one aims to represent the abstract ideas (thoughts, emotions, values ...) utilizing figurative style?

The human body and the infinite power of it's great expressiveness can unfold hidden underlying correlations and place them in new light. The images of figures depicted here are not portraits. Fragments of recollections forged anew by the reconstructive process. The figurative elements built upon multiple experiences, carry multiple layers of significance, thus allowing the viewer various interpretation.

The layers of artistic expressions are supported by the application of the collage technique. Pastel drawing capture the flashing mementoes and arrange them in logical order, while the combined oil painting highlight the emotional correlation of the content.

All begins with Drawing.

Drawing is the foundation of fine art and ultimately of my own life. "We should talk less and draw more" said Goethe, and I can only agree.

The cave drawings of the early men are proof that the urge of illustration is as old as mankind itself. Drawings and sketches of immortal masters like Giotto, Leonardo, Dürer, Rembrandt, Rodin, Degas, Modigliani, Picasso of great artistic eras like the Renassaince, Baroque, Impressionism, Avant garde, give us insight into the creative process, and into the instant of the births of some of the world's most famous paintings.

Drawing is the musical notation of visual arts. Only by having this basic knowledge can one stretch the boundaries of depiction, just as being equipped with the knowledge of anatomy are we able to harness the endless possibilities and make them deliver our ideas of the human figure.

I paint what I see, or do I paint what I think? Choosing between these two basic approaches to art fundamentally defines the direction of visualization. To me, somehow, ever since I was a child, the vision of every hand and foot I saw imprinted unerasably in my mind. I am driven by everlasting interest to unravel the perplexed and subtle mystery and expressive power of the human body. My aim is not simply to reflect nature, but to compare and summarize my observations then project and record the conclusions. Equilibrium is my ultimate goal, although not the momentary balance of the acrobat, rather the equalizer effect of the oscillation of the pendulum.

All begins with Drawing.

We compose, we sketch, we shade and correct. We create contrasts, decide the fate of light and shadow. The lines evoke, dance and seduce. To recognize the sincere, to eliminate the false is not an easy task.

Life too begins with Drawing.
